Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a common and troublesome condition that interferes with the use of the hand.  It is caused when there is too much pressure on the nerves that runs through your wrist.  In some cases, spinal bones lose their normal motion and position causing pressure or stress on the nerves which supply the muscles and function of the neck, arms, and hands.

The major nerves controlling the arms, hands and fingers are the Radial, Ulnar and Median nerves.  The nerves exit the spinal cord through openings between several bones in the lower part of the neck.  These nerves travel from your spinal cord, out of your neck, down the arm, through the wrist bones and into the fingers.  If these nerves are compromised, the result can be numbness, tingling, “pins-and-needles,” burning and pain sensations.

Our approach to the detection and treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome begins with locating the underlying cause, which is often in the neck or wrist. This is accomplished with a complete consultation, x-rays (when necessary) and a thorough chiropractic, orthopedic, physical and neurological examination from one of our qualified doctors.

Although Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can be extremely painful, it is treatable with early diagnosis and proper treatment.
